“In 1961 Chris completed 9 years service with the
colours in the Royal Engineers. He moved to Germany
in 1963 and went to work in the U.S.
oil construction business in Nigeria
for 11 years. He spent 25 years in the Middle East and Far
East, the last 15 years of which as offshore construction
Superintendent/Captain of various oil rigs scattered around the globe. In
1978 he moved back to Germany
from Larnaca, Cyprus, where he had lived on a
boat for 13 years. He retired in 1999 at the age of 65 years.”
“Chris and Elke were married on 19 April 2002 at Kiel,
Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He is also survived by
his brother Tony who lives on an island in the Hebrides, and his daughter
Tina by a previous marriage, who lives in Bremen, Germany.
His only son, born in 1963, died in Algeria in 1983.”
“Chris was admitted to hospital in Kiel and died on Monday 17 March 2003. He
was interred at Malente, near Kiel,
on Monday 24 March 2003.”
Man dies too soon, beside his works
half-planned.
His
days are counted and reprieve is vain:
Who shall entreat with Death to stay his hand,
Or
choke the shameful nakedness of pain?
