IN MEMORIAM

Brian Chalky Till.

1935 to 2006

AAS Arborfield Intake 51B/52A

October 2006

The end of 2006 brings sad news.  I have just heard from Mick Robinson (51B /52A) of the passing on the

30th December 2006 of Brian Chalky Till (51B / 52A).

Brian died whilst in Hospice care in Salisbury U.K.  We all feel deeply the loss of an Arborfield Lad, especially those whom we remember from our own time at the school.  For us to lose two lads from our era in such a short space of time is a severe blow.

As his God has taken our comrade Brian into his safe care and keeping, may he also provide comfort and compassion to Doreen and her family during these saddest of times.

Trevor Stubberfield (52A)

The committal service for Brian took place in Salisbury on Tuesday, the 9th of January 2007, at 11.15hrs. and was attended by family members.  This was followed by a service to commemorate and celebrate Brian's life at 12.00hrs. in St. Michael's Church, and a gathering of family and friends at St. Gregory's Church Hall.  Amongst an assembly of nearly 250 friends and family, in attendance from the Arborfield days were  G.A. McCoig-Lees (50B), Graham Goodwin (51B), Eddie Hind (52A) Gus Summersgill (52B), Topper Brown (47B), George Oates (52B).

Thank you to Mick Robinson (51B/52A) and Eddie Hind (52A) for this information.

Pity not, the army gave

Freedom to a timid slave,

In which freedom did he find,

Strength of body, will and mind.

By which strength he came to prove,

Mirth, Companionship and Love.

For which Love to Death he went,

In which Death he lies content.

 Anon.

At the Memorial Service for  Brian his wife Doreen spoke movingly and lovingly of their life together.  Doreen would like her words to be made available for friends to read and her Eulogy for Brian is available from this link.  To access the tribute, click on the wreath below.
